What is Online Safety?

 Online Safety refers to the act of keeping yourself safe while you use technology, whether that be a computer, mobile, tablet, gaming console or any other technology device.

New technologies are integral to the lives of children and young people in today’s society, both within schools and in their lives outside school.

Our aim is to empower learners to think critically, behave safely, and participate responsibly in our digital world. Children are encouraged to talk openly about their online lives and experiences while being reminded of how to keep themselves safe.

Online Safety is an integral part of our Computing and PSHE Curriculum. It is taught throughout the year in every year group using resources adapted to allow coverage of the eight key areas as outlined in ‘Education for a Connected World’ framework

At Holywell, we encourage children to remember to the rules Zip it, Block it, Flag it!

ZIP IT - Keep your personal information private and think about what you do and say online.

BLOCK IT - Block people who send messages which may be upsetting and don't open unknown links and attachments.

FLAG IT - Flag up with someone you trust if anything upsets you or if someone asks you to meet offline.
