At Holywell Primary and Nursery School, our curriculum is built on a simple, powerful commitment: every child is known, happy and learning. We deliver an ambitious, well sequenced curriculum that enables all children to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need for the next stage of education and for life beyond primary school.
Our approach is grounded in the most reliable evidence about effective teaching, drawing on Rosenshine’s Principles, the EEF’s guidance and national expectations from Ofsted and the DfE. As our framework states, “our curriculum is intentionally ambitious for all children… and is designed so that children gain strong foundations for future learning and for life.”
Across every subject, learning is carefully structured so that children build understanding in small, connected steps. Learning is coherently planned and sequenced, helping children build cumulatively sufficient knowledge and skills over time.”Key concepts are revisited, strengthened and applied so that pupils know more, remember more and can use their learning with increasing independence.
We follow the National Curriculum to ensure a broad and balanced offer, and our Early Years provision is rooted in the statutory EYFS framework. Whether in core subjects or the wider curriculum, we maintain high expectations for every learner, ensuring that all children, regardless of background, starting point or need, experience inclusive, purposeful and engaging teaching. To find out more about our approach, please read our Teaching and Learning Framework, linked below.
Diversity is an important part of our curriculum and runs as a continuous thread from Nursery to Year 6. To find out more, please read our diversity statement below:
