Our aim is to promote creative problem solving, curiosity, resilience and reflection through a variety of practical activities. Children are taught knowledge, understanding and skills. They are encouraged to reflect as they complete a task and make appropriate modifications as needed.
Throughout the Foundation Stage there are a plentiful opportunities to engage in Design Technology. Children are able to independently access Design Technology resources to use in their child initiated play. There are STEM sessions which include Design and Technology activities alongside other STEM subjects.
Years 1 to 6 follow the National Curriculum. At Holywell, each unit of study builds upon prior learning which is revisited and extended throughout the year groups. Specific vocabulary is planned and taught sequentially and cumulatively from Year 1 to Year 6. The Curriculum includes mechanisms, structures, understanding materials, textiles and systems. Every year groups covers food and nutrition, because we believe that this is a valuable life skill. Design Technology has links with Computing, Science and Maths.
