Reception celebrated the Year of the Dog for Chinese New Year on Friday 16th February, 2018. We dressed up in red and black clothes to help raise money for the School’s Defibrillator. Didn’t we look fantastic?
During the day, we cut out, stuck and decorated lucky red envelopes and we were very pleased to have a golden, chocolate coin to pop inside.
We also wrote good luck messages in Chinese writing…..
….. and made Chinese hats, cutting out circles and decorating them with Chinese symbols and glitter.
We also tasted some Chinese food, ordered from the Holywell Hut. We tried noodles, rice, vegetable stir fry and prawn crackers. Yum!
Finally, we did the Dragon Dance around school with a fantastic dragon made by Mrs Harford. We made a lot of noise with our instruments!
First we needed to make some Chinese Hats. We all cut our own hat out, decorating it ourselves with Chinese symbols and patterns.
Then we made our red money envelopes. We cut these out all by ourselves and decorated them with some chinese writing. Inside each envelope we put a gold (chocolate) coin. The children made the envelope themselves using glue and sellotape.
Look how fabulous the chinese dragon is. Mrs Harford made this for us, isn’t she very clever! We dragon danced around the school, into Nursery, through the library and into Year 4 and Year 5. Miss Jones and Year 4 joined in with our chinese dragon music and we danced together. It was hot inside the dragon, but we had so much fun!
It was hungry work being the dragon, so we came back to class and ordered a Chinese take away from Holywell Hut. We got to choose a friends to share our take away. Look at the delicious food that we got to eat.
At the end of the day the Teachers gave us a bookmark with our name written in Chinese.
We learnt so much and had such fun for Chinese New Year!
