YEAR 5 GREEK WOW! EVENT!
On Friday the 19th June it was Year 5’s WOW! Event. There were a variety of things to do. We invited the rest of the school and our parents to come and join in. Everyone had loads of fun.
For the play we decided act out one of our favourite myths, Daedalus and Icarus. Everybody would come in to watch the play and then would get the opportunity to dress up as one or more of their favourite characters. The most popular thing for the audience to wear were the wings of Daedalus or Icarus. We even got the parents to dress up and have their photo taken (hopefully they will end up on the wall of shame)! The play was a huge success!
Write your name in Greek
After the play there were many Greek workshops to attend to. One of the most popular tables to go to was ‘Write Your Name in Greek’. It was fun to see all the different ways people’s names look like in Greek. On the other hand, people were getting a bit annoyed as they could not find one of the letters of their names in the Greek alphabet. In the end we told them just to use the normal letters in the English alphabet.
While we were learning about the Greeks we did some weaving, so at the ‘WOW! Event’ we showed all the other people how to do it. Most people were very good at it while others found it quite difficult to do.
Make your own Greek mask
In Ancient Greece, theatre was very successful. Because they acted in great Amphitheatre they would use masks so that the sound would travel further and so that everybody would be able to hear. We decided to give everyone else in the school a chance to make their own designed mask. Some were weird, wacky and wonderful.
We all enjoyed ourselves and had great fun. This was officially the best wow event we have had this year!
