Reception children have really been enjoying Forest School.
This term started off with fire-lighting. We had already learnt how to stay safe around the fire pit so couldn't wait to see our first fire. We collected lots of sticks, broke them into the correct lengths and sorted them by thickness. Miss Sibbald and Miss Hale then built the fire, which we thought looked a bit like a volcano. They added paper to the middle and after a lot of matches, which the wind kept blowing out, the fire finally lit! We enjoyed a mug of hot chocolate around the fire, watching the sticks 'get eaten by the fire' and turn white and then black. We also saw lots of different shapes in the flames and the smoke. At the end of the session, we made sure we put the fire out safely, listening to the burning logs hiss when the water went on them and seeing lots of steam come up. We can't wait to do it again!
